My mission & my inspiration!
It seems I have quite a few new followers recently (and I've just revamped my website) and I've been seeing a lot of new clients in the clinic and so I thought it was a good time to re-introduce myself and what I'm about!
I'm a Physiotherapist. I'm a small business owner. I'm a women's health warrior and a strong advocate of everyone looking after their wellbeing more in this crazy busy world!
I've been working and interested in women's health since the day I left university when I realised that it was an extremely under-serviced area of health and wellness. I've dedicated my entire career to learning more and more about women's health, pregnancy, postpartum health, the role of hormones, abdominal separation and how to help women stay motivated and excited about their health and fitness.
At this point, it's a passion. That's why I decided to open my own clinic out of the beautiful Soul Movement Studios and I haven't looked back since - it's one of those decisions that the minute you make it, your soul feels happy (or at least that's how it felt). I'm so happy with my decision and I hope when you come to see the space that you love it as much as we do!
So, lets get to some get-to-know-me questions!
What are you like as a Physiotherapist? What's your therapist style?!
I'm "energetic and real". This is what I have been told by clients and whilst a major part of me is just going nawwwww!!! the other part of me thinks that this should just be a normal requirement of a Physiotherapist!
I saw so many physiotherapists prior to and during my studies for various injuries (as my clients know, I'm a totally uncoordinated mess and I've done a multitude of fitness activities across the last 20-something years including horse riding, aerial acrobatics, rowing, running and roller skating which means I've had a few injuries along the way!). The thing that struck me the most about the physiotherapists I have seen in the past is that quite a lot of them wouldn't really educate me as to what was going on, wouldn't talk me through their thought process, wouldn't make sure I understood the exercises and why I was doing them so... I just didn't do them. No surprises there.
The main reason I get described as energetic probably has a lot to do with the fact that I like to be really open about what I think is going on with you, I like to tell you my thought process, I love to educate my clients about what might be going on, what our plan is and what your exercises are to make sure you'll do them correctly. I also get excited about being able to help you on this journey because this is what my job is all about! It is not uncommon for me to see my clients over the course of a year or two as they go through the changes of motherhood, get strong again after each pregnancy and need tune ups for little knocks and injuries here and there HOWEVER, I detest the "come and see me every 2 weeks for the rest of your life" style of health care that is still somehow common today!
Don't get me wrong, In the first few months of us working together it isn't uncommon for me to see you several times in the first few weeks and then every 3-4 weeks or so depending on the issue - this is because results don't come from anything other than putting in the work and working together helps us to make sure the work we're putting in is getting the right results for you! After that - unless we've got other issues to get on top of, I often just touch base by message or email until you next need a tune up or advice! I love getting messages back from my emails saying how great you're going and what you're up to!
My goal is to make YOU empowered with the right knowledge and tools to get strong and feel great and achieve whatever you want! And if we need back-up or other team members (like a psychologist, internal pelvic floor physio, exercise physiology, personal training - you name it) then we rally the tribe and work together to get you the results!
What inspires you? Who inspires you!?
Lots of people inspire me! My family. My mum. My fiancé (whom I affectionately refer to as Bear on social media!). My best friend Holly. My clients! So many of my clients inspire me and their stories and achievements give me the warm and fuzzies.
So many things inspire me too! I love being outdoors, I love running, I love adventuring, I love creating and drawing and spending time with family and friends.
I'm inspired to help people live their best lives and to achieve their goals because I love that the people I have around me help me to do just that!
I'm also inspired by other health and fitness professionals who I align with like the ladies from @ivoryrose_physiotherapy, the @soulmovementstudioadl team and crew, @girlsgonestrong, @themollygalbraith and so many personal trainers that I couldn't list them all in case I forgot someone! I'm inspired by these people because they all want what I want - women to get strong and crush any goal they put their mind to!
Will you be a physiotherapist forever?!
Probably not. I've always said that I don't want to leave the Physiotherapy career until I've written the book on post natal fitness which, who knows when that will be!
My favourite thing about being a millennial (and yes, I'm in that category and yes, we know we have a few "first world problems") is that the world we live in has so much opportunity and so many things for us to try! We can explore whatever sets our souls on fire and that's a true blessing that I do not take for granted.
I'm not leaving anytime soon - I have way too many women to help and way too many things I want to achieve!
